Privacy and data protection

Any business is to some degree dependent on obtaining, storing, adapting and exchanging personal data. SIMONSEN's attorneys draw on their background of extensive experience with privacy legislation combined with in-depth understanding of technology and information processing to provide practical advice which enables clients to pursue their activities within legal boundaries.

SIMONSEN's lawyers have assisted private and public entities with privacy law issues for years. Our assistance include preventive measures such as preparation of guidelines and regulations for internal use within the company, contracts for the disclosure, transfer and processing of personal information by third parties, and measures for ensuring that there is a basis for legal processing of personal data. Also, we may come in later to consider whether privacy legislation has been violated and advise clients on how legal processing can be secured going forward.

We assist our clients on a regular basis in their contacts with the authorities, especially the Norwegian Data Inspectorate, when they give notification of processing or apply for a license to process personal data. We also assist them in discussions and resolution of conflicts with third parties, in dealing with the Data Inspectorate, the Norwegian Appeals Board and the legal system in general.

One important aspect of privacy and privacy regulations is establishing adequate technical and organizational security measures. This topic is particularly pertinent within healthcare, where hospitals, etc. must observe stringent rules with regard to documentation, right of access and confidentiality, while at the same time there is an urgent need for sharing information.
