Media and content distribution

Changes to the ways sound and images are stored, transmitted and displayed, especially when media content and the transmission process itself are digitized, have been comprehensive in recent years, with corresponding changes to the statutes regulating such distribution. SIMONSEN's attorneys have extensive experience assisting rights holders, rights holders' organizations, distributors, owners of electronic infrastructure and other stakeholders in media and media distribution.

We assist our clients in making purchases, sales, licensing and other utilization of rights associated with media and content distribution. We have expertise in and experience with the production and the commercial use of such rights. Our assistance also includes advice and litigation related to other aspects of the media business such as privacy, the liability of owners of electronic infrastructure (such as ISPs), editorial liability for electronic media, etc.

In addition we have long and versatile experience in traditional media law such as questions concerning the right to publish images, text, music and video, freedom of speech, editorial liability and codes of conduct, advertising/marketing, publishing contracts, licenses, government aid (including government subsidies), production and distribution agreements for radio, TV, movies and music, sports/culture and sponsorship, etc.

In close cooperation with our Mergers and Acquisitions attorneys, SIMONSEN's Technology & Media department assists our clients with both business and legal issues that arise in transactions within these segments, for example in connection with acquisitions, sales, investments, joint ventures, etc.
